Kearny County, Kansas
Kearny County is out in western Kansas. Lakin is the county seat. It’s flat and dry out here. Farming is big, but they need a lot of irrigation.
The Arkansas River runs through, but it’s often dry. U.S. Highway 50 runs through the county, connecting it to Lakin and Deerfield.
The Santa Fe Trail used to run through here. With a population of just over 3,800, this is rural Kansas at its core. Kearny County might be off the beaten path, but that’s part of its appeal.
