US Counties

Sedgwick County is the most populous county in Kansas. It’s home to Wichita, the state’s largest city with a real urban feel.

Seward County is down in the southwest corner of Kansas, with Liberal as its main city. It has a mix of farmland and some industry.

Shawnee County is in northeast Kansas and includes Topeka, the state capital. Being the capital, there’s a lot of government action here.

Sheridan County is up in northwest Kansas, with Hoxie as the county seat. It’s pretty rural out here, mostly flat farmland.

Sherman County sits on the Colorado border in northwest Kansas, with Goodland as its main town and county seat.

Smith County sits in north-central Kansas and holds the geographical center of the contiguous United States. The county seat is Smith Center.

Stafford County, nestled in central Kansas, is all about keeping things simple. The county seat, St. John, is a small town with a big heart.

Stanton County is way out in southwest Kansas, with Johnson City as the county seat. It’s about as rural as it gets and sits next to Colorado.

Stevens County is down in the southwest corner of Kansas, with Hugoton as the county seat. It’s mostly flat prairies with some natural gas.

Sumner County is in south-central Kansas, with Wellington as the county seat. It’s right on the Oklahoma border to the south.

Thomas County is out in northwest Kansas, with Colby as the main town. It’s high plains country, mostly flat with some gentle hills.

Trego County is in west-central Kansas, with WaKeeney as the county seat. Cedar Bluff Reservoir is here with Cedar Bluff State Park.

Wabaunsee County is in eastern Kansas, with Alma as the county seat. The county seat, Alma, is known as the “City of Native Stone”.

Wallace County is way out in western Kansas, with Sharon Springs as the county seat. The county has one of the lowest population densities.

Washington County is up in north-central Kansas, with the town of Washington as its seat. It’s mostly farmland with some gentle hills.
