Morgan County, Illinois
Morgan County is right in the heart of west-central Illinois. Jacksonville, the county seat, is home to several colleges and a school for the deaf. Miles of corn and soybean fields stretch to the horizon.
The county’s history runs deep. Underground Railroad sites are across the landscape. Illinois College, founded in 1829, still stands proud. Farmers’ markets are popular in the summer.
The Illinois River forms the northwestern border and are good recreation spots. Winters can be harsh, with biting wind and heavy snow. But folks here are used to it. They hunker down and wait for spring.
