Alabama Counties

Cleburne County is in northeast Alabama, right on the Georgia line. The population is just over 15,000, spread out across hills and valleys.

Colbert County is up in northwest Alabama, along the Tennessee River. Helen Keller was born here and there’s a whole festival for her.

Conecuh County is down in south Alabama. The county’s name means “land of cane”. The county is a small with only about 12,000 people.

Coosa County is in central Alabama. It’s full of rolling hills and winding rivers. Rockford is the county seat, a small town in the center.

Covington County is down in south Alabama, just above the Florida line. The county was named after Brigadier General Leonard Covington.

Crenshaw County is a quiet slice of southern Alabama. Luverne, known as the “Friendliest City in the South”, serves as the county seat.

Cullman County is in north Alabama with Cullman as the county seat. It was founded by German immigrants and you can still see the influence.

Dale County is in southeast Alabama and Ozark is the county seat. The county is home to the Fort Novosel Army installation base.

Dallas County is in roughly central Alabama. Selma is the county seat with about 40,000 people living in the entire county.

DeKalb County is up in northeast Alabama with Fort Payne as the county seat. It’s located in the heart of Alabama’s Black Belt.

Located north of Montgomery, Elmore County is one of Alabama’s fastest-growing areas. About 90,000 people live here.

Escambia County sits on the border between Alabama and Florida. Atmore, the county seat, is known for its Native American heritage.

Etowah County is in northeastern Alabama, with Gadsden as its main city. The county played a significant role in Alabama’s industrial past.

Fayette County nestles in west-central Alabama, with the city of Fayette as its centerpiece. Only about 16,000 people live in this county.

Franklin County is in the Appalachian foothills, making it one of the most scenic spots in Alabama. Russellville is the county seat.
