Cleburne County, Alabama
Cleburne County is tucked in northeast Alabama, right on the Georgia line. Heflin is the county seat. The population is just over 15,000, spread out across hills and valleys.
The Talladega National Forest covers a good bit of it in the west. Cheaha Mountain, Alabama’s highest point, is partly in Cleburne. Cheaha State Park is a highlight for nature lovers with hiking trails and waterfalls.
The county was named after Patrick Cleburne, a Confederate general in the American Civil War. Interstate 20 runs through the southern part of the county, connecting Atlanta and Birmingham.
