Grand County, Colorado
Grand County sits in north-central Colorado, straddling the Continental Divide. Winter Park, the famous ski resort, is here. So is the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.
The county is named after the Grand River, now called the Colorado. Ranching is still big, especially around Kremmling. There’s a lot of public land, great for hiking and camping.
The population is small, about 15,000, but tourists flood in year-round. Summers are short and sweet, winters long and snowy. Grand Lake is the state’s largest natural lake.
