Lake County, Colorado
Lake County is high up in central Colorado, home to Leadville, the highest incorporated city in North America. The population is small. About 8,000 people live here with slow growth.
It’s named after Twin Lakes, two big glacial lakes at the foot of Mount Elbert, Colorado’s tallest peak.
The county has a rich mining history, with old silver mines all over the landscape. These days, tourism is big. Skiing at Ski Cooper is fun in winter. Hiking and fishing are popular in summer.
