Matanuska-Susitna Borough, often called Mat-Su, is north of Anchorage. It’s one of the fastest-growing areas in Alaska, with about 120,000 people. The main towns are Palmer and Wasilla.

Many people who live here commute to Anchorage for work. The borough is known for its farming. The long summer days make for huge vegetables. Mat-Su has beautiful scenery, with mountains, rivers, and forests.

The area was settled in the 1930s as part of a government farming project. Today, it’s a mix of rural and suburban areas. Tourism is important, with many visitors using Mat-Su as a base to explore Alaska. The borough is home to part of Denali State Park. Despite its growth, Mat-Su still has a lot of open space and wildlife.
