Perry County, Kentucky

Perry County is deep in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. Hazard is the county seat. Don’t worry because it’s not nearly as dangerous as its name suggests.
The county has a coal mining history, but these days they’re big on adventure tourism. There’s a neat little ATV trail system if you like your recreation loud and muddy.
And if you’re around in September, check out the Black Gold Festival. It’s like a coal miner’s Mardi Gras. Just don’t wear your fancy shoes. Coal dust has a way of getting everywhere.
