Wrangell City and Borough, Alaska
Wrangell City and Borough is in Southeast Alaska, on Wrangell Island. It’s one of the oldest towns in Alaska, with a history going back thousands of years. Fishing and logging used to be the main industries, but tourism is growing.
Wrangell is off the usual cruise ship route, so it’s quieter than some Alaska towns. The Stikine River delta is nearby, great for bird watching and fishing. Petroglyph Beach has ancient rock carvings.
Wrangell Mountain is visible from town on clear days. Bears are common in the area. The borough can only be reached by plane or boat. Despite being small, Wrangell has a strong community feel. The town hosts a Garnet Festival each year. Winters are mild for Alaska, but still long and dark.
