Colorado Counties

Otero County is down in southeastern Colorado. La Junta is the main town, which is right on the old Santa Fe Trail. The county is pretty dry.

Ouray County is in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. The place is all about outdoor recreation and hot springs.

Park County is Colorado’s high country, where wide-open spaces meet the Rocky Mountains. U.S. Highway 285 runs through the county.

Phillips County is in northeastern Colorado. The population is just over 4,500 and is one of Colorado’s least populated counties.

Pitkin County is in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Aspen is the main attraction here. It’s famous for skiing, but summer is gorgeous too. 

Prowers County is in southeastern Colorado, right on the Kansas border. Lamar is the biggest town and is known for its historic downtown.

Pueblo County is in south Colorado with Pueblo as the main city. It’s known as the “Steel City” because of its history with steel mills.

Rio Blanco County is in northwest Colorado. Meeker and Rangely are the main towns. It’s pretty remote out here with a lot of ranching.

Rio Grande County is in the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado. Del Norte is the county seat but Monte Vista is the largest town.

Routt County is in northwest Colorado. Known for its “Champagne Powder” snow, Steamboat Springs attracts skiers and snowboarders.

Saguache County is in the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado. It’s pretty remote and many consider it as a true Colorado treasure.

San Juan County is the second least populous county in Colorado. Silverton is the only real town. It’s high up in the San Juan Mountains.

San Miguel County is in southwest Colorado. Telluride is the big draw. It’s a famous ski resort with a cool old mining town vibe.

Sedgwick County is way out in the northeast corner of Colorado. Julesburg is the county seat. It’s right on the Nebraska border.

Summit County is in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. It’s all about skiing and snowboarding. This is why the county fills during ski season.
