Dickinson County, Kansas
Dickinson County sits in the middle of Kansas, spread across its rolling plains. Abilene is the county seat. It was once the end of the Chisholm Trail and boyhood home of President Eisenhower.
The Eisenhower Presidential Library is a big draw, but don’t sleep on the Greyhound Hall of Fame if you’re into quirky museums.
Every Labor Day, the Central Kansas Free Fair takes over Abilene with carnival rides and fried everything. And if you’re a train buff, the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad offers rides on a real steam engine.
