Hinsdale County, Colorado

Hinsdale County is tucked away in southwest Colorado. It’s not only the least populous county in Colorado, but it’s one of the most remote counties in the Lower 48.
It’s surrounded by the San Juan Mountains, with peaks topping 14,000 feet. Lake City is the only real town, with just a few hundred year-round residents. The county is mostly public land, great for hiking and four-wheeling.
Lake San Cristobal is the second-largest natural lake in Colorado and it’s here. Off-roaders love the Alpine Loop scenic byway. It’s the kind of place where you can really get away from it all, surrounded by mountain scenery.
