Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska
Northwest Arctic Borough covers a big chunk of northwest Alaska. The largest town is Kotzebue but there are other small villages here too.
The area is home to many Iñupiat people who have lived here for thousands of years. Hunting, fishing, and gathering are still important parts of life. The area is rich in wildlife, including caribou, bears, and whales.
Mining is a big part of the economy, especially the Red Dog zinc mine. Climate change is affecting the region, with melting permafrost and changing animal patterns. Despite modern challenges, traditional culture remains strong in the Northwest Arctic Borough.
