Colorado Counties

Delta County sits on Colorado’s Western Slope, where mountains give way to mesas and valleys. The county seat is Delta.

Denver County is basically the city of Denver, Colorado’s capital and biggest city. It’s in the middle of the Front Range urban corridor.

Dolores County is in southwest Colorado, tucked away in the mountains. It’s one of the least populated counties in the state of Colorado.

Douglas County sits between Denver and Colorado Springs, right in the heart of the Front Range. Castle Rock is the county seat

Eagle County stretches from the high Rockies to the western slope, centered around the I-70 corridor. The population is around 55,000.

El Paso County is in central Colorado, anchored by Colorado Springs. It’s the most populous county in the state.

Elbert County is on Colorado’s eastern plains, just southeast of Denver. It’s mostly rural, with rolling grasslands and scattered ranches.

Fremont County sits in south-central Colorado. The area is known for its mountains and canyons. Canon City is the county seat.

Garfield County stretches across western Colorado, from high mountains to desert canyons. Glenwood Springs is the county seat.

Gilpin County is Colorado’s second-smallest county, tucked in the mountains west of Denver. Central City is the county seat of this county.

Grand County sits in north-central Colorado, straddling the Continental Divide. The west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is here.

Gunnison County covers a big chunk of central Colorado, from high peaks to sage-covered valleys. Crested Butte, the famous ski town, is here.

Hinsdale County is not only the least populous county in Colorado, but it’s one of the most remote counties in the Lower 48.

Huerfano County sits in southern Colorado, where the plains meet the mountains. Walsenburg is the county seat, an old coal mining town.

Jackson County is up in north-central Colorado, high in the mountains. It’s mostly made up of North Park, a wide, high-altitude valley.
