Idaho Counties

Lewis County is tucked away in north-central Idaho. The county is named after Meriwether Lewis. Nezperce is the county seat.

Lincoln County sits in south-central Idaho. It’s small and rural. As you might expect, the county is named after Abraham Lincoln.

Madison County is in eastern Idaho. As expected, The county’s named after James Madison. Rexburg is the county seat along U.S. Route 20.

Minidoka County is in south-central Idaho and is part of the Snake River Plain. Rupert is the county seat, which is a small farming town.

Nez Perce County is in northwest Idaho at the Washington border. Lewiston is the county seat, where the Snake and Clearwater rivers meet.

Oneida County is in southeastern Idaho, right on the Utah border. You can see mountains in every direction. Malad City is the county seat.

Owyhee County is in southwestern Idaho. It’s huge. Murphy’s the county seat. The county’s named after some Hawaiian fur trappers.

Payette County sits in southwestern Idaho on the Oregon border. The county’s named after Francois Payette, a French-Canadian fur trapper.

Power County is in southeastern Idaho. American Falls is the county seat, which is named after a waterfall that’s now under a reservoir.

Shoshone County is in northern Idaho and is part of the panhandle. Wallace is the county seat. Mining puts this county on the map.

Teton County is in eastern Idaho, right up against Wyoming. Driggs is the county seat. Like most of Idaho, agriculture is still important.

Twin Falls County is in south Idaho. Shoshone Falls is here, which people call the “Niagara of the West”. Twin Falls is the county seat.

Valley County is in central Idaho. It’s big and mostly wilderness. Logging used to be big here. Now it’s all about tourism and recreation.

Washington County is in western Idaho with Weiser as the county seat. It’s a small town with a big fiddle contest. Seriously.
