Minidoka County, Idaho

Minidoka County is in south-central Idaho and is part of the Snake River Plain. Rupert is the county seat, which is a small farming town. The county’s named after after a Dakota Sioux word, meaning “well spring” or “fountain”.
The land is flat and dry. Irrigation makes agriculture possible. Without it, this would be less suitable for agriculture. Sugar beets and potatoes are big crops here. You’ll see massive piles of beets during harvest.
Dust storms aren’t uncommon. The Snake River forms the southern border. Japanese Americans were interned here during World War II. The site is now a national monument and is a somber reminder of a dark time.
