Payette County sits in southwestern Idaho right on the Oregon border. The county’s named after Francois Payette. He was a French-Canadian fur trapper. Payette is the county seat.
The Snake River runs along the western edge. Whereas the Payette River joins the Snake in the south. Either one is popular for rafting and crucial for irrigation.
Agriculture drives the economy. Fruit orchards are common including apples, cherries, and other fruits. The county’s known for its onions too. They’re famous around here.
