Elmore County, Idaho

Elmore County stretches from the Snake River Plain up into the Boise National Forest. Mountain Home is the biggest town, which is around an Air Force base. It’s a mix of military families and longtime locals.
The western part of the county is high desert, including sagebrush and missile silos. When you head northeast, you’ll hit the mountains. Plus, it gets green fast.
The South Fork of the Boise River is a fly fisher’s dream. Skiing at Soldier Mountain is a local secret. There’s a string of small reservoirs good for boating and fishing. Prairie rattlesnakes are a real thing here so watch your step.
