US Counties

Grand County sits in north-central Colorado, straddling the Continental Divide. The west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is here.

Gunnison County covers a big chunk of central Colorado, from high peaks to sage-covered valleys. Crested Butte, the famous ski town, is here.

Hinsdale County is not only the least populous county in Colorado, but it’s one of the most remote counties in the Lower 48.

Huerfano County sits in southern Colorado, where the plains meet the mountains. Walsenburg is the county seat, an old coal mining town.

Jackson County is up in north-central Colorado, high in the mountains. It’s mostly made up of North Park, a wide, high-altitude valley.

Jefferson County sits just west of Denver, where the plains hit the foothills. The population is big, over 580,000 and still growing.

Kiowa County is out on Colorado’s eastern plains. It’s about as rural as it gets. Eads is the county seat, but it’s a small town everywhere.

it Carson County stretches across Colorado’s eastern plains, right up against the Kansas border. The population is small, about 7,000.

La Plata County is tucked away in southwest Colorado. Durango is the main town, which has that cool old west vibe with a dash of college town.

Lake County is high up in central Colorado. It’s home to Leadville, the highest incorporated city in North America. The population is small.

Larimer County is on the northern edge of the Front Range. Fort Collins is the big city, which is home to Colorado State University.

Las Animas County is way down in southeastern Colorado. Trinidad is the county seat. It has this funky art scene going on.

Lincoln County is out on the eastern plains of Colorado. Limon is the biggest town, but Hugo is the county seat.

Logan County is in northeastern Colorado. Sterling is the county seat and it has this nice little downtown. This is prime agricultural land.

Mesa County is out in western Colorado. Grand Junction is the big city. It’s like the hub for the whole western slope.
