US Counties

Custer County is smack in the middle of Idaho. Stanley, the tourist hot spot, sits at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Elmore County stretches from the Snake River Plain up into the Boise National Forest. Mountain Home is the county seat and biggest town.

Franklin County sits in the southeast corner of Idaho, against the Utah border. Preston is the county seat, known for Napoleon Dynamite.

Fremont County is tucked up in the eastern corner of Idaho, where potato fields give way to mountains. Island Park is a long volcanic valley.

Gem County sits where the Payette River leaves the mountains and hits the plains. Emmett, the only real town, is known for its cherries.

Gooding County sits in the south-central part of Idaho, not far from Twin Falls. It’s named after Frank Gooding, a former Idaho governor.

Idaho County is the biggest county in the state. It’s right in the heart of Idaho. The Nez Perce called this land home for thousands of years.

Jefferson County sits in eastern Idaho, just north of Idaho Falls. Potatoes are a major crop here. The Snake River Plain stretches out here.

Jerome County is smack in the middle of southern Idaho. The Snake River Canyon forms its southern border. It’s a sight to behold.

Kootenai County is in the northern panhandle of Idaho. It’s a mix of mountains, forests, and lakes. Lake Coeur d’Alene is the crown jewel.

Latah County is in northwest Idaho, right up against the Washington border. It’s home to the University of Idaho in Moscow.

Lemhi County is way out in east-central Idaho. It’s big, wild, and remote. The Salmon and Lemhi Rivers cut right through it.

Lewis County is tucked away in north-central Idaho. The county is named after Meriwether Lewis. Nezperce is the county seat.

Lincoln County sits in south-central Idaho. It’s small and rural. As you might expect, the county is named after Abraham Lincoln.

Madison County is in eastern Idaho. As expected, The county’s named after James Madison. Rexburg is the county seat along U.S. Route 20.
