Finney County, Kansas
Way out in southwest Kansas, Finney County is a mix of wide-open spaces and surprisingly urban spots. Garden City, the county seat, is home to about 28,000 people.
It has a mix of cultures thanks to the meatpacking industry. The Lee Richardson Zoo is quite large for a town this size. Sandsage Bison Range is where you can see real-life buffalo roaming.
If you’re around in July, don’t miss the Tumbleweed Festival. It’s three days of music under the big Kansas sky. And the Finney County Fair? It’s as country as it gets.
